One of the challenges facing NGOs involved in providing improved water sources such as shallow wells is the ability to monitor the continued functionality of each shallow well.
We have been able to maintain contact with each water committee responsible for managing and maintaining the many shallow wells that we have been able to provide over the last 5/6 years. However we are on target to complete the 100th well during 2020 and this number will continue to rise as we identify new locations.
As a result of this expansion, we recognise that we will need to seek ways to monitor remotely the performance of each shallow well and to alert us of any malfunction or disruption.
Thanks to some tremendous work over the last two years by Andrew Ainger and Mike De Haaff, we now have a prototype remote monitoring system deployed at one of our shallow wells as shown.
The following paper describes what has been achieved thus far. http://wellmonitoringservice.co.uk/Well%20Maintenance%20System%20v5.pdf
